Laura attended the University of New Orleans, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology before earning her law degree from Tulane Law School. She clerked with an employment law attorney in New Orleans and then spent 18 years dedicated to a career in higher educational administration at Tulane, Emory, and the University of Florida law schools before becoming an attorney with the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights.

Laura enjoys international travel, the beach, festivals, and visiting New Orleans as often as possible, especially during carnival season!
