Barrett & Farahany has obtained a verdict in favor of our client in a workplace retaliation case, securing an award of $68k in lost wages and a further $50k in punitive damages.
Tried in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the lawsuit, Armstrong v. Breaux Holdings, LLC, alleged that the plaintiff’s former employer retaliated against him by terminating his employment after he complained about being subjected to repeated racial slurs in the workplace. The trial, presided over by Judge Steve Jones, was heard by a panel of eight jurors who listened closely to witness testimony and arguments over several days.
While many attorneys describe the period of jury deliberation as a time to decompress, Managing Partner Amanda Farahany expressed a different sentiment: “For me, I’m more nervous when the jury is out than any other time. I think about all the things I should have done, what I might have missed, and how I could have done a better job for my client.”
Prior to hearing the final verdict, Farahany also stated: “Overall, I am proud to be part of a society that resolves conflicts in a courtroom, instead of on the streets. No matter what happens today, [our client] had the opportunity to have a federal jury of his peers hear his case. That is what matters. We fought for our freedom to have this right. We declared independence to have the right to a jury trial. I believe in the system that lets people – not judges, not a ruler – make those decisions, no matter the outcome.”
