Patricia Gill has dedicated her 23 years of practice to legal matters arising out of the employer/employee relationship. For the first six years of her career, Ms. Gill worked defending employers all over the State of Alabama. In 2005, however, Ms. Gill decided her skills and knowledge would better serve the maltreated employees of the State of Alabama. Ms. Gill shifted her practice to solely representing employees against employers and has never looked back. Ms. Gill works on a wide range of employment matters; however, her practice has narrowed significantly toward defending the rights of women. Ms. Gill had the honor of representing Stephanie Hicks against the City of Tuscaloosa Police Department in her quest for equal treatment for working mothers. She successfully tried the case to verdict and argued the case on appeal. The Eleventh Circuit affirmed the judgment. The case was the first case tried to verdict that addressed the impact of Young v. UPS in the Eleventh Circuit.
At Barrett & Farahany, Ms. Gill’s practice will continue to focus on equal treatment of women and other oppressed employees in the workplace. Her practice includes cases involving discrimination based on race, color, religion, age, disability, sex and gender. She also takes legal action against employers who retaliate against the employees for standing up for these rights. Ms. Gill also represents workers who have been denied leave under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or who were terminated for taking FMLA leave.
Ms. Gill is currently serving as a Board member of the Alabama Affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association to further her quest for justice for mistreated employees.
