Two attorneys from the Barrett & Farahany have been named to the 2021 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. The Atlanta attorneys are Amanda Farahany, the firm’s managing partner, and V. Severin Roberts, a partner.
Amanda Farahany is a founding partner of the firm. Her work on behalf of employees has been widely recognized, and she is the recipient of numerous awards and achievements. In June of 2020, she was elected a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Before that she was named “2019 Lawyer of the Year – Employment Law for Individuals” by Best Lawyers and was also listed in the “Top 50 Women in Georgia” by Super Lawyers. Through Amanda’s leadership, Barrett & Farahany has been recognized as a “Best Law Firm” by U.S. News & World Report and “Best Litigation Firm of the Year” by the Fulton County Daily Report.
Amanda has established a reputation of taking and winning cases that defy the odds and are regularly followed by the media.
- She achieved the highest verdict in a Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) case in the nation and the largest libel verdict for a single plaintiff in Georgia.
- She tried the first Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act case in 2015 to a verdict of $2.25 million, ensuring that genetic privacy will be taken seriously by all companies.
Through her cases, Amanda both defends the individuals who seek legal representation and strives to enact legal change for all employees who face similar hardships.
In 2013, she published a study analyzing and exposing how the courts handle employment discrimination to bring these cases before a panel of jurors. The study has generated national interest and dialogue. The study is now featured in several scholarly articles and books.
V. Severin Roberts is the head of the Wage and Hour group at Barrett & Farahany. His practice is devoted to representing clients in employment law matters, with a particular focus on wage and hour litigation, including individual Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) claims and large collective actions. An equally significant portion of Severin’s practice is dedicated to representing clients in traditional employment litigation, including claims of sexual harassment, violations of the FMLA, and gender, pregnancy, race, age, and disability discrimination.
This is the second year in a row that Severin has been named to Best Lawyers. He also was listed in the 2020 Georgia Super Lawyers.
Before joining Barrett & Farahany, Severin worked at a boutique litigation firm where he gained extensive experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in employment, tort, and commercial litigation cases, including actions brought under the FLSA, Title VII race, gender, retaliation, and religious discrimination, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the Equal Pay Act.
